Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee
Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee was born in Kolkata (then Calcutta) on 05 Mar 1911. Subroto Mukerjee was educated in Diocesan school in Nainital (today known as Sherwood College). Subsequently, Subroto joined Birbhum Zilla School and passed matriculation examination in 1927 and further studied in Presidency College, Calcutta for one year before joining Cambridge University.
About Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee
Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee is ever known not only for his exceptional flying abilities, profound knowledge and also for his true affection towards football. According to him, football needed to be encouraged at grass root level in order to promote the growth of the game in the country. His concept first took shape, when Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society was formed in 1960 after his untimely demise in Tokyo. The first tournament was also played the same year. During the inauguration of the tournament, the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, offered condolence to the great visionary and suggested that the tournament be named after the late Air Marshal. Since then, the Subroto Mukrjee Sports Education Society has grown leaps and bounds and has emerged as one of the most prestigious football tournament.
Diamond Jubilee Edition Subroto Cup
International football tournmaent 2019
The Diamond Jubilee edition of Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2019 is scheduled to be held at New Delhi from 20 Aug 19 to 18 Sep 19 in three categories viz. Sub-junior Boys (U-14), Junior Boys (U-17) and Junior Girls (U-17). A total of 104 teams including teams from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Nigeria, Malaysia, Nepal and Sri Lanka have confirmed their participation in this edition. Press Conference of the tournament is slated for 07 Aug 19 and the Opening Ceremony is scheduled on 20 Aug 19.
The final match of Sub-Junior Boys (U-14) and the final match of Junior Girls (U-17) are planned on 29 Aug 19 and 06 Sep 19 respectively. The Grand Finale & Closing ceremony would be held at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium on 18 Sep 19. Air Marshal BS Dhaoa PVSM AVSM YSM VM ADC, Chief of the Air Staff and Chairman, Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society would be the Chief Guest during the ceremony. Shri. Raj Nath Singh, Hon’ble Defence Minister has kindly consented to grace the occasion as Guest of Honour during the Grand Finale.
